Doing it as root should always work, as long as you have the root password. Thanks for the suggestions! It's only used for > the creation of it. The floppy is already formatted for DOS.

Smitedogg to Cruzin8 Premium Member 2001-Aug-11 5:00 pm to Cruzin8Bear with me, but is the problem the mount command, or

Yep - guess what. https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11097 By the way, regarding the missing 'n', someone once told me that unix people are just *lazy* Type 'cp' for 'copy'; 'mv' for 'move'; 'mkdir' for 'makedir'; and so on... There are no "c:" notations used in unix.quote:mount/floppy/dev/fd0cp c:/u/class/data/export/sf6146.dat /floppyunmount /floppyDoes all this look correct. Here's what finally worked.doscp /u/class...../filename.dat /dev/fd0:/filename.dat · actions · 2001-Aug-20 10:44 pm ·

Sorry but what do you mean by mount? Register Help Remember Me? Also, a lot of unix systems nowadays use automount, so look for a mountpoint being there already, like /mnt, or look in the fstab and vfstab in /etc. http://haywirerobotics.com/cannot-stat/cp-cannot-stat-no-such-file.html No further changes may be made.

Even if it is passed to grub-install? All rights reserved. I'm out!

Nobody on site seems to know it.So for the cp command:cp /u/class/data/export/sf6146.dat /floppyand I see the spaces now for the mount and umount syntax.Am I correct that copying to a floppy

While it's not really critical, it still feels uncomfortable to read an error message after such an important configuration step. thanks....... Can someone help me get my floppy back?

the steps in between, by the way, are okay. You need spaces in the mount line. I also looked in dmesg and I'm sure that it "used" to talk about the floppy drive being a "something something something" but now there is nothing in dmesg about the So once it was created without > --no-floppy option to grub-install. http://haywirerobotics.com/cannot-stat/cannot-stat-zergrush.html If your OS is fairly current, it should check the format and mount correctly:mount /floppy /dev/fd0If no errors, "df" to verify you have a new filesystem mounted on /floppycopy your file

Installation finished. Yes, I'm running both udev and devfs and I may have "lost" the floppy about the time that I installed Gnome-Volume-Manager (udev)... I've always had the root password, so I'm a little out of my element here!Good luck getting the password!drjim · actions · 2001-Aug-10 9:26 pm · Cruzin8join:2000-09-28

Your floppy device may appear as fd1. I've done this before, and it may seem kinda crude, but hey....I got the file I needed.drjim · actions · 2001-Aug-15 7:49 pm · The Deucejoin:2001-02-23California

The Deuce to Cruzin8 Member See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-Bus (../Udev, ../DeviceKit). I verified this with:su -cd /cd floppyls -l (tells me no files are present in the directory)Then I use cd / to get back and try:mount /floppy /dev/fd0 which still returns:Cannot
